50th anniversary at WEKA

50 years of WEKA means 50 years of relevant specialist information, always tailored to current needs. It is also the history of a company that has never stood still.

Founded on 1 October 1973 by Werner and Karin Mützel in Kissing, Germany, the small specialist publishing house for administration and industry has developed over the last five decades into a leading omni-channel provider of specialist information and training, with around 900 employees in three countries. The WEKA Group still bears the names of its founders – or, to be more precise, the first two letters of their first names. Throughout its 50-year history, the publishing group has always adapted to the challenges of the times and positioned itself accordingly.

Werner Mützel personally steered the fortunes of the company for more than 40 years. This period was marked by numerous acquisitions and expansions, such as the founding of WEKA Switzerland as the first foreign subsidiary or the takeover of FRANZIS Verlag, Magna Media, Springer Business Media Austria, and many other media companies. Following the death of the company’s founder, Paragon Partners, a private, owner-managed investment company, took over the WEKA Group in 2020.

WEKA Group Management

The WEKA Group is managed strategically by its holding company with headquarters in Kissing and Munich. The operational business lies in the hands of the division heads.
